I want to ask you a question...What is one thing that you've been putting off for way too long? The thing that is always in the back of your mind that you know you should get done so you can cross it off your running mental to do list. The thing you haven't made time for that has been in the back of your mind stealing your energy. The thing that's a priority, but you'd like to pretend that it isn't. Here is a little secret...address that one thing and quit saving it for another day, it will make a huge difference! Whatever that one thing is for you I want to encourage you to do it.
Last week, I finally took my Minnesota written drivers test. I let this go on for almost a year! When we moved back from Oregon last year I knew I needed to get my MN license, but in order to get my license I had to take a written test. I was letting it sit dormant in my subconscious mind and it was secretly taking my extra energy. I kept thinking I should really take the test but, but, but, and never made it a priority to take the necessary steps to handle it. I thought I had more important things to do then take that test. Looking back I can't believe I let almost a year go by. What was I thinking or really why was I trying to avoid this?
If you have something that has been lingering for way too long, I want to encourage you to power up and get it done. When I walked out last Thursday after taking my test I breathed a BIG sigh of relief! I conquered the decision and quit making excuses as to why I couldn't take the test.

Today, I wanted to share with you two videos I posted on YouTube last fall. In October, I purchased a wonderful new pony and with the excitement of change comes trepidation. When you start anything new it can be intimidating. Usually the thoughts we are telling ourselves are much more frightening then the actual experience. We can talk ourselves into a tailspin if we allow our mind to take us there. Our past experiences can bring up a lot of what-ifs!
In the first video below, you'll see once I had the necessary steps in place I was able to breathe a little deeper. That doesn't mean I wasn't nervous when I rode Henry for the first time at my farm. What it does mean is I had more confidence when I swung my leg over to saddle up. I had an AWESOME trainer on the ground reminding me to breathe and visualize my success. She knew my goal for this first ride and was able to help me achieve it. Thank you, Becky!

In February, I took Henry to a clinic. I was so jazzed when I signed up, but as the clinic was approaching I started to question my decision. That's when the doubts started to creep in and I heard that old familiar voice. "Who are you to sign up for a clinic when you haven't ridden all winter?" "Why on earth did you sign up for this, before you've had some time in the saddle this spring?" The week leading up to the clinic I got physically sick with the flu. REALLY SICK! I don't know if my doubting self-talk was making me sick or maybe it was my bodies way of reprogramming me for what was yet to come? I almost cancelled and didn't go. Trying to muster up any strength I had, I rested in bed until it was time to load my boy in the horse trailer.
Here's the thing, we can either press ahead or we can give up a little too soon. I recently read something that said, "a person is ready to give up when they are only at 40% of their potential!" Which means we still have another 60% capacity left inside us ready to accomplish more! WOW!! Sometimes, we just need a gentle push either from a friend, coach, spouse, or a horse trainer:) Which is why I called my trainer when I had been in bed for three days already and told her I was sick and didn't know if I should cancel. She was patient and listened, but gave me the push I needed to POWER UP! We can press on and forge ahead or we can choose to stop short at our 40% mark and always wonder.
When I got to the arena where the clinic was going to take place and saw all the obstacles set up like gates, tarps, bridges, and ropes hanging from the ceiling, I was nervous. The clinician, Heidi, was truly fabulous and gave me great tools for my tool box. She pushed me out of my comfort zone a little more each time, but never overfaced us. When I first went into the arena I thought to myself there's no way I'm going to get on that bridge with my pony, but we did it!
The moral of the story is doubt, fear, worry, and self-sabotaging thoughts are going to come up from time to time. If you know how to work through them, then each time you will continue to make progress. We all need a support system. Someone to push us a little further than we would normally push ourselves. I'm here to tell you, YOU'VE GOT THIS! I believe in you!
